Sun Valley

A nine-year United States ski team veteran, Pam Fletcher captured six national titles and a gold medal at the 1986 World Cup downhill in Vail, Colo. She was considered the Americans’ best chance for a medal in Alpine skiing at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary until she broke her leg in a freak accident at the Games. She did not come home with a medal, but the U.S. Ski Writers’ Association awarded her the title of "Outstanding Competitor of the Year&" for her courage and sportsmanship.
