Day 4
River Kayaking – whether you like it mild or wild the Snake River has something to offer everyone. With its deep wide channels and fun waves it is the ultimate river for learning to kayak. You are in command as you learn to paddle your own stable, self bailing sit on top kayak. After gearing up, your day will begin in flat water where your instructor will teach you basic paddle strokes, river features, safety and other skills needed for river travel. Then we will paddle down one of several classic Class II stretches of moving water. Your instructor will not only show you the best line down the river, they are also well versed in the natural history of Jackson Hole and the Yellowstone area. All river trips offer an excellent opportunity for viewing wildlife. If you already have paddling experience or really like whitewater action and are an aggressive swimmer, then a paddling trip down the Snake River Canyon is where you will go. It’s a big difference riding the whitewater in your own kayak, but your instructor will guide you to either the smoothest line or the biggest hit – whichever you prefer. If you find yourself apt to kayaking there may even be a chance to surf the world famous standing wave of Lunch Counter Rapid. Don’t forget to save some energy though. Wednesday nights in the summer in Jackson Hole means rodeo. Get western as you experience the real deal of a night of roping, barrel racing, bull riding and more – let’er buck! Lunch included.
Day 5
Yellowstone – A trip to Jackson Hole is not complete without experiencing the World’s first national park. There are two options on this day – first you may choose to tour Yellowstone via the Grand Loop Road. This vehicle based trip will maximize your opportunity to view all of Yellowstone’s renowned features. Old Faithful, Yellowstone Falls, and the abundant wildlife of the Hayden Valley are just a few of the sights you will see. Your guide is an expert on both the natural and human history of this fascinating area that has the highest concentration of geothermal features in the world and has been visited by numerous presidents & heads of state. If you enjoyed kayaking and want to spend more time on the water, the second option will have you paddling a touring kayak on Yellowstone or Lewis Lake. There you will either paddle from Grant Village to the West Thumb Geyser Basin or across Lewis Lake and into the Lewis Channel. Both tours will pass by geothermal features and a trip up the Lewis Channel will take you to a portion of the park that few ever see. Lunch included
